Overview

The SEA Change learning series Data-Driven Decision Making provides higher education change leaders the opportunity to expand their knowledge of how to use data to remove the barriers that limit diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) on their campuses. The learning series was developed in partnership with three equity reform thought leaders – Drs. Lindsey Malcom-Piqueux, Marco Molinaro, and Jessica Bennett. The series takes a theoretically and ethically grounded approach to creating a data plan and communication strategy that address DEI at the faculty and instructional levels. Tools and frameworks for scaffolding this work will be discussed throughout the learning series.

Goals

The learning series focuses on supporting data driven institutional change strategies that generate diverse, equitable, and inclusive environments.  Drs. Malcom-Piqueux, Molinaro, and Bennett will guide participants through discussions of how to ground this work in relevant theories, use data ethically, avoid common pitfalls, and spur action. The overarching goals of the series are to increase participant’s:

  • data literacy and understanding of where to find data
  • awareness and use of data systems and tools
  • knowledge of how to triangulate different types of data
  • ability to build by-in for action

Audience

The learning series is designed for current and emerging change leaders from colleges and universities, including STEMM faculty as well as provosts, deans, department chairs, human resource managers, institutional research leaders, and directors of teaching and learning centers. Institutional or project teams of three or more individuals are encouraged to participate as a group.

Design

The five sessions address core learning objectives through interactive presentations and discussions, guided and complemented by pre-readings and worksheets. The sessions will take place over videoconference within the SEA Change learning management site. We encourage participation in the entire series; however, recordings of the learning series will be made available for individuals and teams to re-watch at a later date.
